Join the 2019 Stinson Walk in May with Pacific Place
Retrace the famous steps of Bernard O’Reilly when he rescued two crash survivors in Lamington National Park with the upcoming 2019 Stinson Walk.
In 1937, Bernard O’Reilly became a national hero in Australia when he took it upon himself to locate a fallen Stinson Model A airliner that went down over Lamington National Park in Queensland. Utilising his skills as a bushman, O’Reilly was able to locate the crash site on his second day of searching, where he discovered two survivors in desperate need of help. He then embarked on another 26-kilometre trek through the rainforest to alert local authorities, which led to a rescue mission that made headlines nationwide.
The Stinson Walk is hosted annually by O’Reilly’s Rainforest Retreat, and invites bushwalkers and adventurers of all ages to follow O’Reilly’s footsteps through Lamington National Park to the original crash site, where graves of the fallen passengers as well as wreckage of the Stinson Model A airliner remain to this day.
As well as the chance to recreate Bernard O’Reilly’s historical rescue mission, the Stinson Walk is a memorable trek through Queensland’s Lamington National Park, which is home to a diverse landscape of native flora and wildlife. The walk crosses through the Border Track, the Albert River Circuit and numerous trails of both rough terrain and dense rainforest, offering a breathtaking bushwalking experience that won’t be easily forgotten.
The annual Stinson Walk returns in autumn and will be spread over three days from Friday, May 17 to Sunday, May 19 - for an unforgettable bushwalk through a celebrated part of Australian history, make sure not to miss it this 2019.
